EADSIM is used by operational commanders, trainers, and analysts to model the performance and predict the effectiveness of ballistic missiles, surface-to-air missiles, aircraft, and cruise missiles in a variety of user-developed scenarios. EADSIM supports the "four pillars" of Theater Missile Defense in a full tactical context by modeling:
EADSIM can easily be confederated with campaign-level models such as the Corps Battle Simulation (CBS) and Vector-in-Commander (VIC); with high-fidelity models such as TAC BRAWLER; and with virtual simulators such as the TI Reconfigurable Simulator configured as a Bradley Stinger Fighting Vehicle (BSFV).
EADSIM is now being used at over 390 subscriber sites around the world. Of particular note, EADSIM was used successfully by the U.S. Air Force Studies and Analyses Agency (AFSAA) to analyze attrition, Suppression of Enemy Air Defense (SEAD) missions, and refueling operations during DESERT SHIELD/DESERT STORM. DESERT STORM's chief air campaign planner, BGen Glosson, stated that EADSIM "saved lives and equipment." In addition, the 32nd Army Air Defense Command used EADSIM during DESERT SHIELD/DESERT STORM to analyze proper positioning of PATRIOT in Israel and Turkey. Users meet to share information about their experiences with EADSIM, to discuss ideas for enhancement of EADSIM, and to receive updates on program status and ongoing developmental activities. The U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command (USASMDC) conducts semiannual Users Group meetings in Huntsville, Alabama, for the entire EADSIM community. Special interest groups have been formed (organized into Eastern and Western regions), and meet in the Washington, D.C., area and the Albuquerque, NM, area to serve local user communities. Configuration Management of EADSIM Configuration management is the responsibility of the EADSIM Chief Engineer, who is part of the USASMDC Testbed Product Office (TPO). The EADSIM Manager oversees the development and enhancement of EADSIM, forwards Software Change Requests (SCRs) to the EADSIM Configuration Control Board (CCB) for approval priority ranking, and allocates funds for implementation and integration of SCRs into the EADSIM baseline within the budgetary constraints of the TPO. Approved SCRs may also be funded by users for faster implementation. The EADSIM CCB is a 16-member board representing all services at the combat developer, materiel developer, and operational levels. As such, the board is uniquely capable of managing EADSIM baseline growth in a manner that satisfies user needs fairly and uniformly. Summary By modeling Theater Missile Defense and Air Defense concepts and systems in a dynamic environment, analysts and raining
audiences gain insight into TMD architecture, battle management, system employment for maximum battlefield effectiveness, force structure analysis, and mission planning. EADSIM is also a powerful wargaming tool for training operators, battlestaffs, and field commanders. EADSIM brings the added realism of air combat and air defense to system developers and system users in an easy-to-use graphical interface which is portable, inexpensive, and fast. |
